I’m in the market for a new camera and have decided on either the Canon EOS 40D or the Canon EOS 5D Mark II…however, I would like to be able to try them out, hold them in my hands and shoot with them first before making a major financial investment in either one.

So does anyone know of a place where I could get them sent to me by mail, test them out for a brief period of time (a week or less) and then send them back? I’ve found only one place that rents both of them so far but the price is far more than I’d like to pay…over $400.00 for both for a week, not including lenses. Does anyone know of a cheaper way or place to rent them, or is that about the normal price for renting these things for a week?

And yes, I’ve looked around at all the camera shops in my area; no place within 200 miles carries them or is willing to let me test them out in their shop, so it looks like rental by mail is my only option.

So, again: does anyone know of a cheap (less than $400 for a week) way or place to rent these two cameras from?

The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III came out in August 2007, and the Canon EOS 5D Mark II came out September 2008.

YET the older camera is more $$ ???

After months of research and comparisons, I was all set to purchase a Nikon D3, but I was just informed of the new Canon EOS 5D Mark II. It’s cheaper than the D3, has an amazing 21.1 mpx AND high-def movie mode. My purpose is for outdoor travel photography and photojournalism. Any experts here can cite the pros and cons of each camera? Of course I would much rather have the new Nikon D3X or the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III, but I don’t have that kind of money, so its seems the second best options are the Canon EOS 5D Mark II or Nikon D3. All your opinions, expertise and feedback are valued, thank you!!!
